With extensive hands-on practice using realistic training arms and under expert supervision, you'll develop the confidence and competence needed to perform venepuncture safely in clinical practice.

The course covers anatomy and physiology, infection control, patient communication, vein selection, venepuncture technique, specimen handling, and management of complications.

Session 2: Practical Skills (1-2 hours)

  • Hands-on practice with training arms
  • Palpating and selecting suitable veins
  • Applying tourniquets correctly
  • Needle insertion technique
  • Blood collection using different systems
  • Withdrawing the needle and applying pressure
  • Sample labeling and documentation
  • Multiple attempts at venepuncture with trainer feedback

  • Prerequisites: Must be a registered healthcare professional or student on a healthcare program
  • Supervised Practice: After training, supervised practice in clinical setting is required before independent practice
  • Competency Assessment: Workplace competency assessment required (we provide documentation)
  • Group Size: Maximum 6 participants to ensure adequate practice time
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for periods during practical sessions

Assessment & Certification

Assessment includes:

  • Multiple choice knowledge test
  • Practical competency assessment on training arm
  • Demonstration of safe technique and procedure

On successful completion, participants receive a Safe2Care Venepuncture Training certificate. This demonstrates theoretical knowledge and practical skills development, but workplace competency assessment is required before independent practice.
